Rediscover Sugar Creek Ranch and Its Legendary Northern California Fly Fishing
Those who have experienced Sugar Creek Ranch at its best over the last 20 years will recall the property's unique 114 acre landscape with its huge piles of river rock dug up during the gold mining days. Many of the eight picturesque ponds are hidden from view as small jewels in a rocky desert. The solitude and silence are very special.
The grounds are softened by the shade of large trees with a backdrop of rugged mountain views. A remarkable variety of wildlife calls the ranch home.
You will remember the year-round cool temperatures of the spring-fed waters as the perfect trout habitat.
Memories will flash over the vivid and varied personality of each pond. The big trout feeding during the early morning hours and late into the evenings are simply awe-inspiring. Our fish are sometimes monster-size but always are lively fighters.
These indelible memories will once again become reality!
Sugar Creek Ranch is alive again, ready to build on its past, as its future!
Under New Management and Being Restored to Its Former Greatness
The Kalpins (Kal and son, Mike), original developers of the Sugar Creek Ranch fishery, invited Jerry Lewis of Tiburon, CA, an experienced fly fisherman familiar with the property, to lease the ponds and the lodge on a long-term basis.
Jerry brings not only his fly fishing expertise, but also a long history of successful real estate and business management experience.
He, along with Kirk Usher, Bruce Carlson, Phil DeMaria, and many others, formed the Corinthian Fly Fishing and Investment Club years ago in the 80's and were one of the first fly fishing clubs to book the Sugar Creek Ranch lodge and fishery almost 20 years ago. The club's original mentor was Mike Michalak of The Fly Shop.
Jerry has developed a long-term business plan for Sugar Creek Ranch and has started to quickly rebuild the fishery in 2016.
He presented his plans to The Fly Shop in Redding, and Mike Michalak and his Private Waters team are now marketing and booking the property, with a significant push into 2017 to restore Sugar Creek Ranch as a prime Northern California fly fishing destination.
The Fly Shop will be doing all of the online bookings, confirmations, payments, and keeping the calendar of activities. In addition, they will be maintaining the pond properties and the lodge.
Sugar Creek Ranch is proud to have such a prominent and experienced venture partner in The Fly Shop.
Look at the Past 20 Years of Sugar Creek Ranch and See the Future
Rather than letting the history of Sugar Creek Ranch fade away, we are striving to recapture its past glory within the next two to three years. We will take these 21 surface acres of spring-creek quality water, eight lakes and ponds, and embellish them with hot fish and the unique beauty of Sugar Creek Ranch.
We are working to make the significant shorelines all angler-friendly with strategically-placed shore casting points. There will be places to launch float tubes, pontoon boats, and kayaks (no regular boats or motors allowed).
Rare for California private waters, the Sugar Creek Ranch fishery will operate year-round. The Lodge will become a special place to stay for both individual fly fishermen and small groups. We are planning to install tent and Yurt camping in the future for those who really enjoy the outdoors.
Our rainbows continue their own natural reproduction, while we supplement them with our own home-grown fish raised in special protective raceways. Our natural, food-rich waters grow fish at a spectacular rate!
This will be the place where every skill level of fly fishers will catch fish. All ponds will have good fish populations, and we will strive to regain our reputation for big-and-brawling monster-size rainbows.
These are our immediate goals, and we offer it all to you. Come, rediscover the waters at Sugar Creek Ranch, booking NOW!.
